I recently had a bug with a client who reported that the Refresh action with the F5 shortcut key did not work during error on one type of document, the issue escalates to high priority assuming that some custom add-in on page was a problem.
After analysis, I realized that the client’s IT team in the configuration mode of Dynamics NAV for a specific profile that is assigned to a user group removed the system action Refresh from the page and for a specific document type/page.
I searched the internet for a short definition of the reason for this bug and I did not find it, so I decided to write the blog post.
In Dynamics NAV, the Refresh action (or F5 shortcut) is a system action that reloads the current page and any data it displays. If you remove this action from a page in configuration mode, the action (and its associated shortcut) will no longer be available on that page.
Configuration mode in Dynamics NAV allows you to customize the user interface of pages for a specific profile. When you remove an action in configuration mode, you’re essentially hiding it from the user interface. This doesn’t just remove the button for the action from the page, it also disables the functionality of the action, including any associated keyboard shortcuts.
So, when you remove the Refresh action from the Sales Order page, you’re not just removing the Refresh button from the page, you’re also disabling the ability to refresh the page using the F5 shortcut. This is why you can’t refresh the page on error with F5 anymore.
If you want to be able to refresh the page with F5, you’ll need to add the Refresh action back to the page in configuration mode, best advice is to restore defaults on the ribbon and then to configure tabs, groups, actions again.
Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.
